Happy National French Dip Day! That’s right, November 12th is a day to celebrate one of the all-time best comfort foods: the French Dip sandwich.
What’s not to love? That warm, crusty bread, the savory roast beef, and the little bowl of rich au jus for dipping—it’s the perfect meal for a chilly November evening! In our house, we think holidays like this are a wonderful excuse to gather the whole family, slow down, and share a meal that warms both the body and the soul.
More Than a Meal, It’s a Blessing
As a Christian family, we believe that sharing a meal is one of God’s simplest and most beautiful gifts. It’s not just about the food; it’s about the fellowship. It’s a time to put distractions aside, look each other in the eye, and share the “highs” and “lows” of our day.
The Bible so often uses the image of “breaking bread” as a symbol of community, gratitude, and closeness.

Making it a Family (and Fun!) Affair
A French Dip dinner is surprisingly family-friendly. Here’s why we love it:

A Note for Our Furry Family Member

But before you share, this is our very important pet safety-loving reminder:
A traditional French Dip sandwich is NOT safe for your dog.
- Way Too Salty: The au jus (the dip) is loaded with sodium, which is very dangerous for dogs.
- Toxic Ingredients: Most recipes are made with onions and garlic, both of which are toxic to our pups.
A Safe “Pup Dip” Treat Instead!
But they don’t have to miss out on the celebration! Here’s how to make a safe, special treat for your best friend:
- Set Some Beef Aside: Before you add any salt, onions, garlic, or other seasonings to your roast, cut off a small, plain piece.
- Cook it Separately: You can boil or pan-sear this small, unseasoned piece of beef until it’s cooked through.
- Shred & Serve: Shred the plain, cooked beef over their regular dinner.
- A “Doggy Jus”: Want to give them a “dip” too? Pour a tiny bit of warm water or (even better) a splash of 100% sodium-free, onion-free beef broth over their food. They’ll be in heaven!
